What is May Festival
Outline
May Festival is a school festival of the University of Tokyo held every May at Hongo and Yayoi Campuses. With about 400 projects and 100,000 visitors, May Festival is one of the largest school festivals in Japan.
Despite the usual quiet atmosphere, the Hongo Campus during the festival is filled with excitement unique to school festivals. You will see many outdoor stalls and stage performances on campus. Since the University of Tokyo excels in research, you can also enjoy various academic projects.
The uniqueness of May Festival is emphasized by the combination of students' energy and the accumulated expertise.
No reservations are required, so please feel free to come by.
We are looking forward to seeing you at May Festival.
What are “projects”?
The word “project” refers to exhibitions, performances or shops that various groups prepare to entertain you at the festival.
Greetings from the Chairperson
Thank you for visiting our May Festival official website. I am Terunari Katsuura, the Chairperson of the 97th May Festival Standing Committee.
In 2020, a tunnel suddenly appeared in front of us, long and dark. Last year, when we finally reached the exit, would be the first year that many of us were able to truly enjoy our university life. At this year's May Festival, where we regained our original form, the results of our work built with fellow participants will bloom as a flower. Please enjoy to the fullest the passion, wonder, and amusement that UTokyo students will deliver with all their might.
This year’s theme is “Droplets Meet to Form the Ripple.” When gazing at the still surface of the water, sometimes a droplet forms a spreading circle of a ripple. One after another, aqua rings create intricate patterns on the surface. We overlapped the scene with the way people meet with each other. A place where you meet people you would never normally meet. A place where something new is born. That is what the May Festival is all about. Why don't you come to Hongo this May to find new fateful beginnings?
We are looking forward to welcoming you for the finest two days.

“Gogatsu-no Kaze (五月の風)” Shocho-no Taiin (唱頂の大員)
About this Song
“Gogatsu-no Kaze (五月の風)” has warmed up the May Festival since being composed by “Shocho-no Taiin (唱頂の大員)” in 2007 as the theme song of this festival. The idea for creating “Gogatsu-no Kaze” came from a proposal by the Committee to create a theme song that would bring a new breeze to the festival. The members of “Shocho-no Taiin,” a group that started out as a band for their high school festival, were enthusiastic about our idea and agreed to create an image song for the May Festival. This song refreshingly expresses the joy and fulfillment of trial and error to express their passion, which is unique to the members of “Shocho-no Taiin.”
Please enjoy this song, which has been handed down with the passion for the May Festival.
